The story behind Grama products

povestea din spatele produselor grama shop

Romanian clothing brand, Grama Shop, firmly believes that clothes can change your life and has one goal: to let the best version of you shine.

Creating a garment product in a workshop involves a complex, multi-stage process, from research and design to production and packaging. This textile “art” requires innovation, creativity and strong practical as well as organizational skills.

What are the stages behind the creation of Grama products?

The main stages behind the creation of Grama products are categorized as follows:

Research creative ideas and analyze market needs

At this first stage, fashion trends, consumer profile and requirements, product characteristics and collection direction are analyzed. This step can be carried out in tandem by the design and production teams to result in an effective exchange of ideas in terms of both the look and functionality of the finished product.

Design process, creativity and innovation

This stage is perhaps the most defining when thinking about how the character of the new Grama collection will be reflected. The designers create the first sketches and illustrations of the products, either by hand or digitally. After visualizing these, material and color schemes are determined, with a focus on texture, durability, cost and aesthetics.

Making the print

This can be done either manually or with specialized software. For this, the Grama team works with a local printer who produces an O-series, a print which is then turned into a prototype to test the shape, dimensions and practicality of the product. Once all these details have been agreed, the pattern is finalized and listed in the sizes marketed by the Grama brand, i.e. XS, S, M, L.

Processing work materials

At this stage of production, both tailoring and organizational knowledge come into play. Both the materials and additional elements (labels, elastic, buttons) are ordered from our suppliers and then introduced into our manufacturing process. The cutting of the material is carried out by marking and cutting it according to the pattern. To save time and if the density of the material allows it, sometimes 2 or 4 pieces can be cut on top of each other. The cut pieces of material are sorted and labeled to ensure that they will be sewn correctly in the next steps.

Product assembly

Assembling the product is done by sewing with industrial sewing machines by the two seamstresses working in the Grama workshop. It is also at this stage that the rest of the details are attached, such as zippers, buttons (which are also sewn in our workshop), product labels and other functional or decorative elements depending on the product sheet.

Quality control

This step is an essential part of our process due to the brand’s desire to offer garments to the highest quality standards (perfect seams, clean finishes, flawless material). Also, most of the time, the Grama team also conducts a functional test to verify product-specific functionality for quality, durability and comfort.

Product presentation

A photo shoot is held to introduce customers to the story behind the collection, followed by a listing on the brand’s official website and social media pages.

Getting the product ready to reach the customer

packaging of grama shop products

It goes through the process of cleaning and finishing the product (ironing, cutting off the remaining threads). The process is then followed by the packaging of the garment in a fine silk paper, attached with a polka-dot sticker with the Grama logo and accompanied by a grateful thank you card.

Feedback part

Atelier Grama places great value on the relationship with its customers, which is why the option is available to offer advice that can lead to improvements in the design or production process for future collections.

Where are Grama Shop clothes made?

All these steps illustrate a process as diverse and sometimes complicated as it is beautiful. The beginning of the brand was based from a production point of view on the collaboration with a local factory, where today only the famous velvet sets are still produced from the Grama portfolio, which due to high demand are made in a stock that cannot be sustained otherwise. Otherwise, all Grama products are made with the utmost care for you and the environment in our workshop in Cluj, in limited and much-loved series.

Although textile production in Romania is often a complex process, we are grateful that we are able to maintain it at the highest standards, through sustainable processes focused on quality and sustainability, supporting local craftsmen and promoting our authentic identity.
